Understanding No-Gi

What Is No-Gi
Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu?

No-Gi Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is a form of grappling practised without the traditional Jiu-Jitsu uniform, known as a Gi. Instead, students typically train wearing a rash guard and shorts.

Like traditional Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, No-Gi focuses on controlling an opponent, improving position and applying submission techniques. The main difference is that you cannot use clothing grips to control your training partner.

This creates a faster, more movement-focused style of grappling, where body positioning, timing, wrestling and control become particularly important. No-Gi is also closely connected to the grappling skills used in mixed martial arts (MMA).

At Roger Gracie Academy Buckingham, our No-Gi classes combine technical instruction, practical drilling and controlled sparring, helping students build their skills at their own pace.
