Roger Gracie Academy Buckingham

Safe on the mats.
Supported off them.

Everyone deserves to feel safe, respected and welcome at RGA Buckingham. We're committed to protecting children, young people and adults at risk, and to taking concerns seriously.

Safeguarding is everyone's responsibility.

Whether you're a student, parent, coach or visitor, if something doesn't feel right, we want you to feel comfortable raising it. You don't need to be certain that something is wrong before reporting a genuine concern.

01

Our Safeguarding Commitment

RGA Buckingham is committed to providing a safe and supportive environment for everyone who trains with us.

We take the welfare of children, young people and adults at risk seriously, and aim to respond appropriately to safeguarding concerns.

  • Promoting respectful, inclusive training.
  • Taking concerns and disclosures seriously.
  • Responding to allegations appropriately and without unnecessary delay.
  • Protecting privacy and sharing information only when appropriate.
  • Seeking advice or referring concerns to external safeguarding authorities where necessary.
02

Recognising a Concern

Safeguarding concerns can take many forms and may involve behaviour inside or outside the academy.

Examples of concerns include:

  • Bullying, harassment, intimidation or discrimination.
  • Physical, emotional or sexual abuse.
  • Neglect or concerns about someone's welfare.
  • Inappropriate behaviour or boundary violations by adults or peers.
  • Unsafe coaching or training practices that place people at risk.
  • Any disclosure from a child or vulnerable individual that raises concerns.
You do not need to investigate a concern yourself. Report what you have seen, heard or been told, as accurately as possible.
03

How to Report a Concern

If you have a safeguarding concern about a child, young person or adult at risk, please contact our safeguarding team.

Our safeguarding email is received by Daniel Lewis, Ian Willmore and Owen Bateman.

If your concern involves someone who receives the safeguarding emails, or you do not feel comfortable reporting internally, you can contact the police or relevant local authority safeguarding service directly.

What Happens When You Report?

Safeguarding reports should be treated seriously, sensitively and without unnecessary delay.

  • We receive the concern. Information submitted through our safeguarding contact channels is reviewed by the appropriate people.
  • We consider immediate safety. Where urgent action is required, appropriate safeguarding or emergency services should be contacted.
  • We record relevant information. Concerns and actions taken should be documented securely.
  • We take appropriate action. This may include seeking safeguarding advice or referring the matter to external authorities.
  • We follow up where appropriate. We may contact you for further information, subject to confidentiality requirements.
To protect the people involved, we may not be able to share the outcome of a safeguarding investigation with the person who made the report.
05

Privacy & Confidentiality

Safeguarding information is sensitive and should be handled carefully.

We aim to limit access to safeguarding information to people who have a legitimate need to know.

Complete confidentiality cannot always be guaranteed. Information may need to be shared with the police, social services or other appropriate professionals to protect someone from harm or meet legal obligations.
